Reciprocity with RHU® and ChHC®

Registered Health Underwriter® (RHU®) and Chartered Healthcare Consultant® (ChHC®) Designations

On January 1, 2017, the Chartered Healthcare Consultant (ChHC®) and Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®) designations were acquired by NABIP. These designations were sunset and thus are no longer available for new students. Those that earned their ChHC and/or RHU through The American College will continue to be honored and expected to maintain their designation(s) with NABIP every 24 months with approved Continuing Professional Credits (CPCs) and a bi-annual fee.

Your ChHC® and RHU® Work Towards the New Registered Employee Benefits Consultant® (REBC®) Designation

When NABIP acquired the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) designation from The American College on January 1, 2017, NABIP paid careful consideration to the insurance professional’s needs in supporting clients. It became quickly apparent that key courses from The American College should remain, but that NABIP’s suite of certification programs were also key for overall knowledge and client service.

The new REBC designation allows for courses offered by NABIP and those that may have been completed through the ChHC and RHU designations by The American College to count towards designation requirements. These courses together, culminating in the REBC designation, offer an in-depth, comprehensive approach to education on the issue.

If you hold a ChHC or RHU designation, the following REBC designation curriculum requirements will be waived:

  ChHC   RHU
Group Benefits
Advanced Topics in Group Benefits
ACA and Beyond: A Modern Look at Employee Benefits
Individual Health Insurance Certification *

* This will count as satisfying one of the three Elective courses required.
